Family Has Nits?

How to stop head lice from spreading in a family.

Keep coats separated on hooks by using bags and keep each person's scarf and hats in their own bags. This is very important even after treatments.

Clean combs and hairbrushes in hot water for fifteen minutes. Make sure that hair in brushes is removed every time the brush is used.  Everyone should have their own brush and keep it in their rooms not in the same drawer.

If head lice treatment is needed, have every member with head lice treated at the same time.

Change pillow cases and duvet cover at the same time as treatment.

Cuddly toys, cushions from bedrooms should be put in a bag for three days.

Keep hair tied back - plaits or braids are best for long hair.

Sleepovers can be a very easy way to transmit head lice so have friends bring their own sleeping bags rather than sharing beds.

If there is a chance that a child has a case head lice do not allow dressing up games where they are swapping clothes, wigs etc.

Remember not all people will itch when they have head lice, so do not presume they do not have head lice in hair if not scratching their heads.

Remember if you have head lice it is nothing to be ashamed about. Head lice love, loving families who cuddle, hug and snuggle on the sofa. They also like clean hair, washing hair will not kill head lice.
