Smartphones are blamed for dramatic rise in head lice as schoolchildren gather together to view screens.  NitNOT are seeing more and more secondary school pupils than ever before.   The average age of children contracting head lice was four to eleven in primary schools.  But, the last few years have seen the age increase to sixteen.

All because girls and boys are using smartphones for selfies and getting together to watch the latest YouTuber.  Sharing head phones can also spread the head.

Parents and teachers need to keep reminding there children about keeping hair tied back and to avoid touching heads.  Selfie sticks are good as they let you have a little space between each other.

Younger children do tend to be able to take it in the stride, but when teenagers get them it can cause anxiety, stress and a drop in self confidence.  As the fear of their friends finding out seems unbearable - the sad fact is there is a good chance that twenty percent of their friends have head lice and this has been the source for their own lice blight.

In the Telegraph Science Section have written an interesting article including

A study of more than 200 youngsters found those owning a smartphone - or tablet - were more than twice as likely to be infested with lice.

Out of the 98 who did not have or use either type of device 29 (29.5 per cent) experienced head lice - compared to 65 of the 104 (62.5 per cent) who did.
